June’s Event: What a marvelous experience! We had a large group of about 57+ people. We picked up Kendall Hinton in Cedar City as well as purchased umbrellas and extra socks ( because of the great cloudburst of rain) then headed to Iron town. This was very interesting since it has been restored
within the last few years. Many of us had not seen all the great changes.
Bro. Hinton was very knowledgeable, providing details of how Iron Town was settled and what went on there. When it was discovered, they decided it contained one of the largest deposits of iron ore in America! Several companies showed a big interest in
developing it and many people settled in Iron town. At one time there were more people living there, than in Cedar City. One of the most interesting sites was the ovens that were used to make the charcoal from the nearby wood forests. The remains of the smelter is there also. For a number a years they produced tons of iron ore. Some was used to make tools and some was shipped to SLC and other places. We were able to spend quite a bit of time looking around and asking questions about the area. It has taken on the look of summer resort homes, including a man-made lake. Kendall said several companies still have interest in the iron ore. It is interesting to note that we probably hit the first traffic jam in Pinto area. The Bloomington Hills Stake was having their handcart trek, with several hundred participants
and they were having a great time. We stopped in Pinto and saw the nice cabins and lovely summer homes there, but the trek people were
going to use the Hafen's home and grounds for their lunches with their families, so we decided to drive on to Mountain Meadows to eat our lunch. We want to give special thanks to Wayne and Margene Edwards who provided lunch for us. The rains held out until NEARLY the end of trek. After lunch Kendall gave a great presentation on the events that lead up to
and after the Mountain Meadows Massacre. We saw the beautiful monument that was
dedicated by President Hinckley a few years ago. It was a very stirring experience to hear and
even feel the events that happened there. Kendall has done a lot of research on this area and is one of the foremost experts about what happened. (he knew all the dates, all the names of the people involved, the outcomes, and all of the arguments for both sides! (this without NOTES) He told us about the churches stand on the events and how President Hinckley was able to appease both sides with his feelings of love and forgiveness for all. We all felt like it was a great event, and best of all we learned a lot...Thanks so much to David Isom and Wayne Edwards for the report this month!

We appreciate knowing what is happening to our members. For those who haven’t heard, Lavar McAllister has undergone surgery on his heart, and appears to be recovering well. Also, Bob and Alice Reeve were in an accident and broke legs and Alice injured her back and will have to be down for at least 8 weeks. They are recovering, and are well taken care of. Our prayers go out to each of these wonderful people for their complete recovery.
The Hurricane Chapter of the SUP has entered a new era. For the past two months The newsletter has been mailed to those who do not have the internet. Those who do, have been sent an e-mail by David Hinton, letting them know when the newsletter was posted to the internet. It is very important that, if you want to be kept up to date on the happenings and programs we are having, that you get online to see the newsletter. This has already proven to be a blessing financially. Thanks for your support.
It has been suggested that some of you have a hard time using the internet. If you cannot access our website, please call me, David Hinton, at 635-4201, and I will either help you over the phone, or come by your home and help you find it. I will also make it very accessible to you so it is easy to find. Please let me do that for you. I have helped two or three already, and they were surprised at how easy it has been. Again, the chapter website address is:
