November’s Meeting: Tonight’s meeting was an exciting event. We had the privilege of honoring two of our original founders. Garth Isom, this years president brought Dell Stout, and Verdell Hinton in front of the group, and honored them for the heritage they have left us with. They were then presented a medallion from the National Organization,
and a beautiful plaque also from National. They were then introduced by a mutual relative, Steve Stout, then given time to tell their story. It was most fascinating. Their stories were recorded digitally, and if there are any who would like a copy of their remarks, if they will bring a CD to David Hinton’s Home, he will burn a copy of them for you.
The story of the history of the founding the Hurricane Valley SUP was most interesting, especially knowing that Verdell was the original
founding member, having joined the SUP in Sacramento California. Dell’s Recap of his life in Hurricane was poignant and heartwarming. He told of many of those who had played a part in his life, forming the way he wanted to live his life. We are grateful for these two men, who have played such a huge part in the development of our Hurricane Valley SUP Chapter. Some of their accomplishment are recorded below.
December’s Meeting: Please come to our Christmas Dinner that will be held on December 5, 2009. Take note of the place, it will be different than before. We will meet at the New Hurricane Intermediate School that is located just north of the Hurricane Stake Peach Orchard on 700 West and 1325 South. The Sons of Utah Pioneers, Hurricane Valley Board of Directors, will provide dinner. They may ask for your help in the preparation of the food. David Isom will be the chief Cook. Our Christmas dinners have been wonderful in the past, and this year will be no different. The cost will be $7.50 a person.
We would like to have this Christmas Dinner be our recruiting dinner, and encourage you to bring a friend(s). The cost will be $7.50 for them as well. There will be fine dining, and entertainment, as well as a video of the treks we have gone on this year, that will also include a pictorial history of the Hurricane Valley from 1904 to the present. Also, this is the evening we will swear in our new board for the 2010 year. We would like to give our heart felt thanks to Garth Isom who has been our president this year. He has worked diligently to make sure we had an eventful year. Our congratulations to all of the rest of this year board for their hard work.
A reminder that National Dues have gone from $30.00 to $50.00 for next year. Also, for those who have thought about becoming life members, that has been $300.00, but in January is going to $500.00. This would be a good time to think about becoming a life member. If you pay $150.00 now, and $150.00 next year, you can get your life membership for $300.00, but that 1st 150 dollars would have to be taken care of before December 31st this year. There is also a $15.00 local due as well. Our local has not gone up.
