August’s Event: Our August 19th meeting at the American Legion hall will be one that will long be remembered. Lee Beatty gave a presentation of his ancestry from a man named John Lathrop down to his father Don Beatty. He informed us
that his named used to be pronounced “Batty”, but after a meeting of some of his ancestors, they called themselves Beattys not “Battys”. The person that he chose to elaborate on was Elijah Knapp Fuller. Lee’s presentation was very interesting, and at times spellbinding as he talked about various experiences of his progenitors. There was plenty to eat, and very good company. For those who were not able to attend, you missed a great time.
September’s Event: Will be held September 4th and 5th. We will celebrate Peach Days with our traditional booth selling home-made root
beer. It has proven to be one of the celebrations’ favorite booths over the years. We will be calling each of you to see if you can give 2 – 4 hours of your time in helping us prepare and sell this wonderful beverage. Please check your time schedule, and volunteer if it is at all possible. Our thanks to all who have helped in the past.
There will also be a parade Saturday morning that will begin at 10:00 a.m. We are going to have an SUP float in the parade, and would like to encourage as many of our members to come ride on the float as possible. Lee says there will be room for at least 24 people, so come join us. We will load onto the float somewhere between 200 and 300 South Main. The time you need to be there to load onto the float is 8:30 a.m. We will be able to throw candy along the way to the children watching the parade. Lee could also use some help on the float preparation. If you could help please contact Lee Beatty at 635-2524. Please Come!!
Also, from September 17th thru the 19th the National SUP will be holding their convention in Ogden, Utah
October 21st Mormon Battalion Presentation by Nick Scholzen. The Battalion has a great group organized here in Washington County. The original Mormon Battalion played a very important part in Mormon history and settlement of the west. Come and let Nick entertain you with information about these brave and faithful men (and women) who served their country in spite of how the U.S. government treated them.
Up Coming Events: Please put these dates on your calendars! Please note that there has been a change to the October presentation.
