December’s Meeting:
Christmas Dinner on December 5th was nothing short of stupendous. Our thanks to our chef’s, David Isom, Antone Bringhurst, Darwin Leavitt, and Wayne Edwards. The tables were festive, and brought an atmosphere conducive to Christmas. Thanks to Marilyn Bringhurst, Kathy, and Janice Isom. The meal consisted of Dutch Oven Chicken and Potatoes, ribs, green beans, rolls, green salad and Dutch Oven Cobbler. We had a very large crowd, with some guests. The entertainment was wonderful, provided by Colleen Simkins, and Margaret Cravey
playing and singing Christmas songs. There was also a video shown that gave a pictorial history of the treks the
SUP have been on for the last two years, as well as early pictures of Hurricane. Last of all, our new board was sworn in by our Area SUP Vice-president, Robert Horrocks. It was so good to see so many friends. The venue was new for us at the Hurricane Intermediate School, and well suited for what we wanted to do. After the dinner, we were able to go into their theater for the show and entertainment. Thank you all for a fun Christmas dinner.
Next Years Presidency: Darwin Leavitt will be our new President-elect , and Larry LeBaron will serve as our New President, while Garth Isom will assume the post of Past President, having served as president for the year 2009.
The rest of the 2010 board is: Durward Wadsworth, Ron Simkins, Steve Stout, Dave Hinton, Lee Beatty, Antone Bringhurst, Dave Isom, Wayne Edwards, Don Tait and DeLoy Evans. We welcome Durward as a new member of the board, and wish Jay Evans, Wes Christiansen, and Price Nelson good luck as they move on.
A reminder that National Dues have gone from $30.00 to $50.00 per month for next year. If you are interested in becoming a Life Member, the dues will be a one time payment of $500.00. You can make this payment by paying $250.00 this year, and $250.00 next year. It should be noted that chapter dues have not gone up, and are still $15.00 per year. So, if you are paying annually, total dues would be $50.00 for National, and $15.00 for local Chapter. If you are going to buy a life membership, you can pay $500.00, and there will be no chapter dues for the one time you pay for life time membership, but local dues will continue for the next year on. You can also pay your lifetime membership in two separate payments of $250.00, one payment each year for two years. Again, the first of these payments, you would not be asked to pay local dues, but the 2nd year and later years you would.
January’s Meeting: This month some of our members will be going over brief outlines of pioneers that have been memorialized at the National Headquarters. Over the past several years, our chapter has memorialized a number of our pioneer ancestors, and so this month’s meeting will be helping each of to know about this process, and who we can memorialize of our own ancestors. Garth Isom has done a number of these during the past two years, and he will be our presenter, with one or two others helping him. This meeting will be interesting and informational as well. Come and join us at the American Legion Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 20th. It will be pot-luck, so come and be fed, entertained and educated all at the same time. It will be a meeting you will be glad you attended.
With the closing of the2009 SUP year, we will be saying good bye to Robert Horrocks of the Cotton Mission Chapter, who has served as our Area Vice President for the past
two years. We have enjoyed his company, and faithfulness in supporting our chapter during that time. He has diligently attended
our monthly board meetings, and many of our regular meetings. He has not only helped us, but has been involved with the Red Rock Chapter from Kanab, as well as the Cotton Mission Chapter in St. George, and represented Southern Utah at the monthly National Meetings in Salt Lake City. Thank you, Robert. We wish you well. Our New Area Vice President will be David Hinton, who will take over for Robert at the beginning of January.
Upcoming events:
February: will be a presentation on Mountain Dell given by David Isom.
March: To be decided
April: Honoring Essay Winners
THANK YOU to those who served this past year in our leadership. We owe much to Garth Isom, who worked tirelessly for each of us, Wayne Edwards who was serving as our past president, and Larry LeBaron who served as President Elect. They have done a marvelous job, and provided us with a variety of experiences that will be long remembered.
